Herbal Remedies for Beginners: Prepare for Your Studies

»
Resources & Recommendations
You will find most of the information you need to complete your studies within the course materials available on Canva and provided in class. That being said, we highly recommend obtaining copies of at least three pieces of herbal literature to be used as additional resources. As part of our programs, we would like you to begin or build up your own personal materia medica of notes on the herbs that you study. Because of the variable nature of herbal information, you’ll want to cross-reference your research using three different sources, at the very least.

The purchase of any additional books is not mandatory, and you can complete your program utilizing course materials only. If you do not wish to purchase materials, your local library will have herbal books on hand. Google Books even has some herbal textbooks available for free!

Tools & Supplies

To participate in the workshops and recipes from the course, you will also need a few tools and other supplies. You may have many of these items at home already, or you can find most of them at your local grocery retailer or home goods store. Many larger grocery chains will have at least a small office and school supply section with notebooks and index cards, and an aisle with kitchen tools like strainers, glass bowls, and funnels. Amazon will carry most of these supplies if you are looking to shop online. Vodka or brandy for extracts can be picked up at your local liquor/grocery store.

  • Notebook and pens/pencils
  • Index cards (we recommend using the larger 5x8's)
  • 16 oz. glass canning jars
  • Cheesecloth
  • Strainer
  • Large bowls
  • Funnel
  • Small 1 or 2 ounce glass bottles
  • Natural waxed paper
  • Raw honey
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • High proof brandy or vodka
